Made in era when Raleigh would build a frame to a customers specifications I believe this to be a frame made or tweaked for someone as a special order. Any info or just an opinion would be gratefully received from any of the Raleigh enthusiasts out there. The frame is built with strong but lightweight Reynolds 531st tubes with Shimano drop outs. It has the usual touring bike canti and front & rear rack mounting bosss. The low use Shimano Triple bio pace chainset & huge range rear block give it a massive range of 18 go anywhere gears. The wheels are made up of Campagnolo Record hubs laced with stainless DB spokes into sturdy Mavic MA3 rims. These are fitted with brand new Michelin Dynamic classic 700x28x tyres. The gear set up is an unusual but very versatile one with Deore thumb shifters mounted on the top of the bars.
The Cable stops are brazed on to the headtube lugs so the bike was specifically made to adopt bar mounted or bar end shifters. The bars themselves are again unusual making the whole cockpit a very comfy and multi riding position one. You can sit on the top of the bars, sit on the hoods, sit on the drops or sit lower with your hands facing flat.A multipoint riding position cockpit very carefully thought out for those long days in the saddle whilst on tour. The saddle is a super comfy and near perfect condition Turbo Special with beautiful dark brown grained leather. Shimano 600 Headrace, Shimano Deore F & R mechs, Cinelli 90mm stem, full length mudguards, twin water bottles and front & rear Pannier racks complete this unique 80s Raleigh Randonneur touring bike. I also have the original Raleigh frame fit pump but forgot to put it back on for the photos! The bike has undergone a recent full service to include brand new Michelin Dynamic classic. Amberwall tyres, new bar tape and all new inner and outer cables.
All bearings have been stripped out, cleaned and repacked with fresh grease. Both wheels have been trued and tensioned and the bike now rides faultless and will give its new owner many many miles of trouble free cycling. The frame measures 22.5 from centre of BB to top of seat tube. Its 22 from centre of seat tube to centre of headtube with a 90mm stem. The bike is in excellent working order but as you can see from the photos there are some age related scuffs etc.
Theres no dents, damage or big rust scabs or anything to worry about but its 34 years old so please expect some usage marks. Please study/zoom in on the 12 photos. If you require any further photos of any particular parts/area please message me and I will be happy to send you whatever you need. This British made classic will only increase in value the longer you own it! A no brainer if you ask me!Please study the photos as they make up the majority of my description. Im limited to 12 photos so obviously cant show every detail about the bike. The bike has scratches, rust spots and general wear n tear for a bike of this age. Its not new so please dont expect new. My opinion may differ from yours in regards to condition but I have described this item to the best of my ability.
Please note: the bike will need to be partially dismantled for all courier services. 1: The cost of the service as charged by the courier. 3: Cost of packing materials ie; bubble wrap, shrink wrap, tape etc etc. The item "Vintage 1987 Raleigh GOD Randonneur Reynolds 531st 22.5 Gents Touring Bike Sbdu" is in sale since Friday, June 25, 2021.
